About Me

Carole Cullen is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Supervisor Candidate.  Carole has over 10 years of experience treating individuals, couples and families.  She holds a Masters Degree in Marriage & Family Therapy from Hofstra University and a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from SUNY Stony Brook.  Carole also has extensive training in Trauma and Bereavement work with individuals, children and families. Currently, Carole is undergoing intensive training to become an AAMFT Approved Supervisor.

Carole is a member of a number of organizations that support the advancement in the field of family therapy including the AAMFT (American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy) and NCAMFT (North Carolina Association of Marriage and Family Therapy). As a therapist trained in family systems, Carole can treat a wide range of serious clinical problems including: depression, anger, marital problems, anxiety, individual psychological problems, and child-parent problems.  Her therapeutic style is a brief, solution-focused therapy that drives to attain specific therapeutic goals.   This type of solution focused therapy has been proven to be effective and in some cases more effective than standard and/or individual treatments for many mental health problems such as: adult schizophrenia, anger management, affective (mood) disorders, adult alcoholism and drug abuse, children's conduct disorders, adolescent drug abuse, anorexia in young adult women, childhood autism, chronic physical illness in adults and children, and marital distress and conflict.   On average, this type of short term therapy last from 10-20 sessions, focusing on attaining therapeutic goals and moving towards the end of treatment.  Many of our clients have reported an increase in their energy levels, being happier in their relationships, being less stressed about school or work and improvements in their marriage and family life.   In addition to being a family therapist,  Carole was on the faculty staff at Hofstra University where she taught in the Marriage & Family Therapy programs. Carole has also worked with families that have lost a loved one on September 11th, 2001 and with at-risk youth and their families to maintain family preservation.

In addition to providing therapeutic services, My-Therapist, Inc. is an internship placement site and training program for students who are in an MFT Masters Program.  Our interns are selected by their commitment to the therapeutic relationship and who have a strong desire to work with clients to develop long lasting emotional wellness.
